The installation cost will change based on the brand and type of your new system, as the installation process, design and layout, and features of the system may be different from others. Hot water heater installation methods and prices can change depending on whether you have solar hot water systems, gas hot water systems, electric hot water systems, or solar hot water. In some states and with particular products, hot water systems, including the heat pump, hot water heater and tanks must be installed by professional services to maintain warranty and safety certifications. Having your hot water system installed and repaired by a professional will ensure that the system is operating how it should, without any leaks from gas or water, and that the hot water heaters will keep the optimum temperature. Having licensed plumbers complete the work will save on plumbing costs and avoid needing a repair service in future.

The placement of the hot water heater and systems must be strategic to allow good pressure and fast hot water in every shower and tap. Hot water systems that are installed in the garage of a two-storey house may struggle to reach the upper-level showers. Consider where the hot water will be needed the most, and plan for your systems to be installed there. Additionally, hot water systems and the tank must be in an easy location for a plumber to access in case of service or repair.

The first thing you need to know is if you have an electric or gas water heater. If you’re not sure, call us, and we’ll help you figure it out. If you know whether it is gas or electric, here are some tips for where to start.

Gas Hot Water Heaters

Your pilot light on the gas water heater has probably gone out. If you relight the pilot light and it still doesn’t work, your water heater probably has a different malfunctioning part. If you can’t light your pilot, call us, and we’ll have a technician diagnose the problem.

Electric Hot Water Heaters

It’s most likely that the electrical breaker tripped, or the hot water heater’s thermostat is faulty. Check the breaker box first. If the breaker is still in place, another part of the hot water heater has failed. Call us, and we’ll have a technician diagnose the problem.

The overflow pipe is attached to a temperature relief valve. This safety valve helps reduce excess pressure and temperature inside the hot water heater. Occasionally the pipe blows off a bit of steam, even though there is no problem with the water heater. But if the leak is frequent or continuous, you could have a problem.

Usually, the time you wait is because of the plumbing in your home. The hot water has to run through the pipes from the water heater to the faucet. The water between the heater and the tap cools off when you aren’t running the water. So, the longer the pipes, the longer the wait.

You could talk to Hot water expert Sydney about a re-circulation pump system or an instant water heater, installed where you want the water. These small, instant heaters are easily installed in a bathroom cabinet or kitchen cupboard. Then you’ll have an almost immediate supply of hot water.

Abundant Hot Water is available for emergency repairs from 6am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. Outside these hours are by appointment only.

Electric hot water tanks with premium brands like A Rheem 491 series generally last between 15 and 20 years.  These are steel enameled tanks. Rheem also makes a stainless steel series Stellar with similarly expected life spans. There are cheaper commercial tanks on the market and our experiences see them last between 10 and 15 years. Gas storage and instantaneous generally aim for around 10 to 15 years in all brands. Solar hot water systems in premium brands generally between 15 to 20 years.  Imported brands lucky to last 10 years.

There is a massive difference between tanks even though the outers appear to be the same.  Rheem is the best product on the market as they have the longest warranty on their products.  They are the biggest hot water manufacturer in Australia.  A warranty is only as good as the company offering it! Rheem 491 series and stellar series offer the highest insulation value applied, therefore the hot water storage tank acts like a battery storing the residual heat longer and requiring less constant heating cycles between uses.  This then adds up to less running costs and longer tank longevity as fewer heat cycles. Sacrificial anode is larger than standard competitors and is captive so if a plumber lays the tank over it’s not going to chip the enamel lining and greatly reduce the life span of any enameled tank.  This is always a common problem out there with other installers. Element and thermostat parts can also differ between brands and quality.
